THIRTEEN (13) YEARS AT THE IDP CAMP

For over thirteen years, the same people and faces have lived in the worn makeshift tents and walked the same beaten paths across eight IDP camps in Maiduguri. It is all too common for us, far removed from the hardship to glance over these reported numbers as sad statistics. The truth is, these are real lives and real people whose dreams and goals have been violently uprooted and thrust into a cycle of fear, lack, and uncertainty.

The contrast is stark. On one hand, the affluence of a wealthy Church that grows richer by the week. On the other, the persistent stagnation of persecuted Christians mired in poverty with scarce opportunities for changing their fortune.

Most of the people in these camps were subsistence farmers. Their livelihood was more than work: it was their identity, their dignity, and their assurance of a future. And then, the violence came. With it, they lost their fields, their income, the certainty of food on the table, and for many, their sense of purpose.

Unfortunately, deprived of land to call theirs in Maiduguri, they have been living on the benevolence of kind-hearted Christians. This charity helps them to survive, but it cannot replace what was taken.

Constrained by limited resources, Lay Faithful Trust Foundation rotates its relief projects amongst the IDPs in Maiduguri, and across other affected states. The rotation of support is a practical necessity and a moral commitment: to reach as many as possible, even when we cannot reach everyone at once. Each visit brings the IDPs much joy and temporary relief. Yet, our repeated trips underscore an uncomfortable reality: food runs out and smiles fade as anxiety sets in. Our brethren, orphans, widows, the maimed and the hurt require a long-term solution.

In April 2026, we were able to bring food relief to four of the Maiduguri camps. The Acts of Random Kindness (ARK) Foundation partnered with us in a meaningful way, providing cash donations to 107 widows across the affected camps. Those envelopes eased immediate hunger and offered a fragile but real measure of compassion in a life too often defined by loss.

We are deeply grateful to the ARK Foundation and to the many brethren who give regularly to support persecuted Christians. These acts of kindness ripple outward in ways we cannot always measure. In the eyes of the grateful brethren and under the watchful gaze of our Heavenly Father, they are never in vain.

Once again, we thank the ARK Foundation for its support, and we encourage other Christian groups to emulate this act of kindness. As we continue this work, we ask Christian groups and individuals to consider how they might join in — whether through one-off gifts, regular donations, or by encouraging others to give.

We also thank all the brethren who regularly donate funds to support persecuted brethren in Nigeria. Thank you for standing with these families in their long season of waiting. Your compassion is a lifeline, and your prayers and support reflect the light of Christ in places of sorrow and darkness.

Thank you, and God bless you.

Your brother in Christ,
